What happens when you are locked out

Locked out of a terrace near the Falls Road, a flat in Stranmillis or a house in Holywood?

Tell us what kind of door it is (timber, uPVC or composite) and what lock is on it. Most lockouts are a nightlatch that has shut behind someone, a uPVC door with the key inside, or a key that has snapped or got stuck in the lock.

If the lock has to be drilled, because the keys are lost or the lock has failed, we tell you before we start and fit a new lock on the spot, so you are not left with a door you cannot lock.

Locked out in Belfast: common questions

Will my door or lock be damaged?

We always try to open the door without damage first. Some locks cannot be opened that way and have to be drilled or replaced. If so, the engineer tells you why and confirms the price before starting, and fits a new lock straight away.

My key has snapped or is stuck in the lock. Can you get me in?

Yes. The engineer takes the broken piece out of the cylinder, opens the door and checks the lock. If the cylinder is worn or damaged, you get the price of a new one before it is fitted.

I lost my keys. Should I change the locks?

If the keys could be linked to your address, yes. We can open the door and fit a new cylinder in the same visit, from £88.

How does pricing work?

Tell us the door, the lock and what has happened, and we give you a free quote on the phone. When the engineer arrives, they check the lock and confirm the final price with you before starting any work. Nothing is done without your agreement. A £49 assessment fee applies only if you cancel after the engineer has arrived.

Which areas around Belfast do you cover?

Every BT postcode on the mainland, plus nearby towns such as Lisburn, Newtownabbey, Bangor, Holywood, Carrickfergus, Newry. If you are not sure, call and we will tell you straight away which engineer can reach you.

How do I pay?

When the job is finished. Card, cash or bank transfer, and you get a written receipt you can use for an insurance claim.

Do you cover towns outside Belfast such as Lisburn, Bangor and Newry?

Yes. Our engineers work across the BT postcode area, including Lisburn, Newtownabbey, Bangor, Holywood, Carrickfergus and Newry.

Can you change the locks on a red-brick terraced house in Belfast?

Yes. Many red-brick terraces still have timber front doors, and our engineers fit BS3621 mortice locks and anti-snap cylinders to suit them.
