What happens when you are locked out

Locked out of a converted flat at Stonehouse, a Victorian terrace in Stoke or a cottage in Cawsand?

Tell us what kind of door it is (timber, uPVC or composite) and what lock is on it. Most lockouts are a nightlatch that has shut behind someone, a uPVC door with the key inside, or a key that has snapped or got stuck in the lock.

If the lock has to be drilled, because the keys are lost or the lock has failed, we tell you before we start and fit a new lock on the spot, so you are not left with a door you cannot lock.

Locked out in Plymouth: common questions

Will my door or lock be damaged?

We always try to open the door without damage first. Some locks cannot be opened that way and have to be drilled or replaced. If so, the engineer tells you why and confirms the price before starting, and fits a new lock straight away.

My key has snapped or is stuck in the lock. Can you get me in?

Yes. The engineer takes the broken piece out of the cylinder, opens the door and checks the lock. If the cylinder is worn or damaged, you get the price of a new one before it is fitted.

How does pricing work?

Tell us the door, the lock and what has happened, and we give you a free quote on the phone. When the engineer arrives, they check the lock and confirm the final price with you before starting any work. Nothing is done without your agreement. A £49 assessment fee applies only if you cancel after the engineer has arrived.

Which areas around Plymouth do you cover?

Every PL postcode on the mainland, plus nearby towns such as Torquay, Exeter, Saltash, Ivybridge, Plympton, Plymstock. If you are not sure, call and we will tell you straight away which engineer can reach you.

Do nights and weekends cost more?

No. The price is the same at 3am on a Sunday as it is at midday on a Tuesday, bank holidays included.

Do you charge a callout fee?

No callout fee when you go ahead with the job. If you decide not to go ahead after the engineer has arrived, a £49 assessment fee covers the visit. Otherwise you pay for the job itself in Plymouth, at the price the engineer confirms with you before starting.

Do you cover Cornwall as well as Plymouth, for example Saltash, Looe and Liskeard?

Yes. The PL area crosses the Tamar into east Cornwall, and our engineers cover Saltash, Torpoint, Liskeard, Looe, Fowey and Launceston as well as Plymouth.

Does the salty sea air damage door locks in villages like Cawsand and Newton Ferrers?

Salt air and damp do speed up corrosion on exterior locks, hinges and handles near the coast. Our engineers can free a stiff lock, replace a worn cylinder or fit a new BS3621 lock, with a 12-month guarantee on parts fitted.
