What happens when you are locked out
Locked out of a flat near the station, a house in Whitley or a cottage in Sonning?
Tell us what kind of door it is (timber, uPVC or composite) and what lock is on it. Most lockouts are a nightlatch that has shut behind someone, a uPVC door with the key inside, or a key that has snapped or got stuck in the lock.
If the lock has to be drilled, because the keys are lost or the lock has failed, we tell you before we start and fit a new lock on the spot, so you are not left with a door you cannot lock.

Locked out in Reading: common questions
Will my door or lock be damaged?
We always try to open the door without damage first. Some locks cannot be opened that way and have to be drilled or replaced. If so, the engineer tells you why and confirms the price before starting, and fits a new lock straight away.
My key has snapped or is stuck in the lock. Can you get me in?
Yes. The engineer takes the broken piece out of the cylinder, opens the door and checks the lock. If the cylinder is worn or damaged, you get the price of a new one before it is fitted.
How do I pay?
When the job is finished. Card, cash or bank transfer, and you get a written receipt you can use for an insurance claim.
I lost my keys. Should I change the locks?
If the keys could be linked to your address, yes. We can open the door and fit a new cylinder in the same visit, from £88.
Do you charge a callout fee?
No callout fee when you go ahead with the job. If you decide not to go ahead after the engineer has arrived, a £49 assessment fee covers the visit. Otherwise you pay for the job itself in Reading, at the price the engineer confirms with you before starting.
How does pricing work?
Tell us the door, the lock and what has happened, and we give you a free quote on the phone. When the engineer arrives, they check the lock and confirm the final price with you before starting any work. Nothing is done without your agreement. A £49 assessment fee applies only if you cancel after the engineer has arrived.
Do you cover Newbury, Basingstoke and Henley as well as Reading?
Yes. The same 24-hour line covers the whole RG postcode area, including Wokingham, Bracknell, Thatcham, Hungerford, Tadley and Odiham.
Can an engineer reach Caversham, on the north side of the Thames, as well as the rest of Reading?
Yes. Caversham is within the RG postcode area and the same 24-hour line covers it. Give us your street and postcode and we will say how soon an engineer can reach you.
