Why a uPVC door stops locking
Newer builds and renovated terraces across Cambridge, Cambourne and the surrounding villages have plenty of uPVC and composite doors, and one that will not lock usually points to the multipoint mechanism, the handle or the gearbox. Engineers carry common uPVC parts, so many faults can be fixed on the visit.
Most uPVC doors use a multipoint lock: one handle drives a gearbox in the door edge, which throws hooks and rollers into the frame. When the handle goes floppy, spins, or will not lift, the gearbox has usually worn out. When the door needs force to lock, it has usually dropped on its hinges.
We replace the gearbox or the full strip when they have failed, and adjust hinges and keeps so the door closes cleanly again. We carry the common gearbox sizes, so most repairs are done in one visit.
The same goes for uPVC patio doors and other double-glazed doors: multipoint locks, handles, gearboxes and cylinders are repaired or replaced the same way.

uPVC door repair in Cambridge: common questions
My uPVC door won't lock. What is wrong?
Usually the door has dropped, so the hooks no longer line up with the frame, or the gearbox inside has worn out. Adjusting the door starts from £79; a new gearbox from £89.
The handle spins and the door will not open. Can you help?
Yes. That is a failed gearbox, one of the most common uPVC calls we get in Cambridge. We open the door and fit a new gearbox.
Do you repair composite doors too?
Yes. Composite doors use the same multipoint locks and euro cylinders, so we repair them the same way.
Do nights and weekends cost more?
No. The price is the same at 3am on a Sunday as it is at midday on a Tuesday, bank holidays included.
Which areas around Cambridge do you cover?
Every CB postcode on the mainland, plus nearby towns such as Ely, Saffron Walden, Newmarket, St Ives, Histon, Trumpington. If you are not sure, call and we will tell you straight away which engineer can reach you.
How does pricing work?
Tell us the door, the lock and what has happened, and we give you a free quote on the phone. When the engineer arrives, they check the lock and confirm the final price with you before starting any work. Nothing is done without your agreement. A £49 assessment fee applies only if you cancel after the engineer has arrived.
I live in a village outside Cambridge. Do you still come out?
Yes. The same 24-hour line covers the whole CB postcode area, including Ely, Newmarket, Saffron Walden, Histon, Cottenham and Waterbeach. Give us your village and street and we will say how soon an engineer can reach you.
Can you re-key a rented house when a tenant moves out?
Yes. We can fit new locks or new cylinders so the old keys stop working, and hand the new keys over on completion. We will confirm who is entitled to authorise the work before starting.
