Why a uPVC door stops locking
Glasgow's post-war and newer estates, from Drumchapel to Castlemilk to Cumbernauld, are full of uPVC and composite doors, and it is usually the multipoint lock, handle or gearbox that gives out. Our engineers carry common uPVC parts, so many repairs can be finished during the same visit.
Most uPVC doors use a multipoint lock: one handle drives a gearbox in the door edge, which throws hooks and rollers into the frame. When the handle goes floppy, spins, or will not lift, the gearbox has usually worn out. When the door needs force to lock, it has usually dropped on its hinges.
We replace the gearbox or the full strip when they have failed, and adjust hinges and keeps so the door closes cleanly again. We carry the common gearbox sizes, so most repairs are done in one visit.
The same goes for uPVC patio doors and other double-glazed doors: multipoint locks, handles, gearboxes and cylinders are repaired or replaced the same way.

uPVC door repair in Glasgow: common questions
My uPVC door won't lock. What is wrong?
Usually the door has dropped, so the hooks no longer line up with the frame, or the gearbox inside has worn out. Adjusting the door starts from £79; a new gearbox from £89.
The handle spins and the door will not open. Can you help?
Yes. That is a failed gearbox, one of the most common uPVC calls we get in Glasgow. We open the door and fit a new gearbox.
Do nights and weekends cost more?
No. The price is the same at 3am on a Sunday as it is at midday on a Tuesday, bank holidays included.
How quickly can someone get to me?
An engineer is typically with you in 15 to 20 minutes, and within 30 minutes at most. We give you a time on the phone based on where the nearest engineer is right now.
Which areas around Glasgow do you cover?
Every G postcode on the mainland, plus nearby towns such as Paisley, East Kilbride, Cumbernauld, Kirkintilloch, Clydebank, Bishopbriggs. If you are not sure, call and we will tell you straight away which engineer can reach you.
Do you charge a callout fee?
No callout fee when you go ahead with the job. If you decide not to go ahead after the engineer has arrived, a £49 assessment fee covers the visit. Otherwise you pay for the job itself in Glasgow, at the price the engineer confirms with you before starting.
Can you open the shared close door of my tenement?
Yes. Our engineers work on communal close doors, entry-phone doors and individual flat doors. For a shared door we will want to confirm you live in the building, and replacing a communal lock usually needs the agreement of the other owners or the factor.
Do you cover the towns outside the city, like Clydebank and Cumbernauld?
Yes. The same 24-hour line covers Clydebank, Bearsden, Bishopbriggs, Kirkintilloch, Cumbernauld and the other towns in the G postcode area. Give us your street and postcode and we confirm the arrival time on the phone.
