Why a uPVC door stops locking
uPVC front and back doors are everywhere on the Medway estates, from Rainham to Kings Hill, and the multipoint locks inside them wear out. Our engineers carry common uPVC parts, so many repairs can be finished on the first visit.
Most uPVC doors use a multipoint lock: one handle drives a gearbox in the door edge, which throws hooks and rollers into the frame. When the handle goes floppy, spins, or will not lift, the gearbox has usually worn out. When the door needs force to lock, it has usually dropped on its hinges.
We replace the gearbox or the full strip when they have failed, and adjust hinges and keeps so the door closes cleanly again. We carry the common gearbox sizes, so most repairs are done in one visit.
The same goes for uPVC patio doors and other double-glazed doors: multipoint locks, handles, gearboxes and cylinders are repaired or replaced the same way.
Locksmiths who know Medway
Salt air and winter weather on the Isle of Sheppey and along the Medway estuary corrode external locks and uPVC hardware, while older Chatham and Gillingham terraces often have timber doors with worn nightlatches.
