Why a uPVC door stops locking
Many houses in Costessey, Taverham and Sprowston have uPVC or composite front doors, and one that will not lock usually points to the multipoint mechanism, the handle or the gearbox.
Most uPVC doors use a multipoint lock: one handle drives a gearbox in the door edge, which throws hooks and rollers into the frame. When the handle goes floppy, spins, or will not lift, the gearbox has usually worn out. When the door needs force to lock, it has usually dropped on its hinges.
We replace the gearbox or the full strip when they have failed, and adjust hinges and keeps so the door closes cleanly again. We carry the common gearbox sizes, so most repairs are done in one visit.
The same goes for uPVC patio doors and other double-glazed doors: multipoint locks, handles, gearboxes and cylinders are repaired or replaced the same way.
Locksmiths who know Norwich
On the coast at Cromer, Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft, salt air eats at steel locks, hinges and letterboxes faster than it does inland, so seaside doors tend to seize before they fail.

uPVC door repair in Norwich: common questions
My uPVC door won't lock. What is wrong?
Usually the door has dropped, so the hooks no longer line up with the frame, or the gearbox inside has worn out. Adjusting the door starts from £79; a new gearbox from £89.
The handle spins and the door will not open. Can you help?
Yes. That is a failed gearbox, one of the most common uPVC calls we get in Norwich. We open the door and fit a new gearbox.
Do you repair composite doors too?
Yes. Composite doors use the same multipoint locks and euro cylinders, so we repair them the same way.
Do nights and weekends cost more?
No. The price is the same at 3am on a Sunday as it is at midday on a Tuesday, bank holidays included.
How quickly can someone get to me?
An engineer is typically with you in 15 to 20 minutes, and within 30 minutes at most. We give you a time on the phone based on where the nearest engineer is right now.
How does pricing work?
Tell us the door, the lock and what has happened, and we give you a free quote on the phone. When the engineer arrives, they check the lock and confirm the final price with you before starting any work. Nothing is done without your agreement. A £49 assessment fee applies only if you cancel after the engineer has arrived.
Do you cover Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft and the north Norfolk coast as well as Norwich?
Yes. The same 24-hour line covers the whole NR postcode area, including Cromer, Sheringham, Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft, Beccles and Bungay.
Will someone come out to a house on the Broads, near Wroxham or Hoveton?
Yes. The NR postcode area includes Wroxham, Hoveton, Horning and the villages around them. Give us the road and postcode on the call and we will say how soon an engineer can reach you, with a free quote on the phone.
