Why a uPVC door stops locking
Many homes on the estates of Thornhill, Sholing and Weston now have uPVC or composite doors, and one that will not lock usually comes down to the multipoint mechanism, the handle or the gearbox.
Most uPVC doors use a multipoint lock: one handle drives a gearbox in the door edge, which throws hooks and rollers into the frame. When the handle goes floppy, spins, or will not lift, the gearbox has usually worn out. When the door needs force to lock, it has usually dropped on its hinges.
We replace the gearbox or the full strip when they have failed, and adjust hinges and keeps so the door closes cleanly again. We carry the common gearbox sizes, so most repairs are done in one visit.
The same goes for uPVC patio doors and other double-glazed doors: multipoint locks, handles, gearboxes and cylinders are repaired or replaced the same way.

uPVC door repair in Southampton: common questions
My uPVC door won't lock. What is wrong?
Usually the door has dropped, so the hooks no longer line up with the frame, or the gearbox inside has worn out. Adjusting the door starts from £79; a new gearbox from £89.
The handle spins and the door will not open. Can you help?
Yes. That is a failed gearbox, one of the most common uPVC calls we get in Southampton. We open the door and fit a new gearbox.
Do nights and weekends cost more?
No. The price is the same at 3am on a Sunday as it is at midday on a Tuesday, bank holidays included.
Do you repair composite doors too?
Yes. Composite doors use the same multipoint locks and euro cylinders, so we repair them the same way.
Which areas around Southampton do you cover?
