Why a uPVC door stops locking
The 1950s estates and newer developments around Stanley, Outwood and Pontefract have plenty of replacement uPVC doors that drop on their hinges, develop stiff handles or lose their multipoint lock.
Most uPVC doors use a multipoint lock: one handle drives a gearbox in the door edge, which throws hooks and rollers into the frame. When the handle goes floppy, spins, or will not lift, the gearbox has usually worn out. When the door needs force to lock, it has usually dropped on its hinges.
We replace the gearbox or the full strip when they have failed, and adjust hinges and keeps so the door closes cleanly again. We carry the common gearbox sizes, so most repairs are done in one visit.
The same goes for uPVC patio doors and other double-glazed doors: multipoint locks, handles, gearboxes and cylinders are repaired or replaced the same way.
